Version: Dev.0.08.08

An offline echo-conference network that unites people with different LoRa settings, from different networks, countries and cities

Fidonet/GoldED-style discussions with no internet and no servers. Meshtastic/MeshCore FIDO brings together nodes with different modem presets, regions and roles, and links separate mesh networks — Meshtastic and MeshCore — into one shared conference space.

— About —

Meshtastic/MeshCore FIDO is an add-on for LoRa mesh networks that turns short packets into full echo conferences: topics, reply threads, quoting, personal mail (NETMAIL) and system areas.

People join with very different setups — different frequencies and modem presets, different roles, different transports. The network's job is to bring them into one conversation.

— Features —

Echo conferences and mail

Echo conferences for countries, cities and topics; subscription via the shared catalog with a geo-filter. Personal mail (NETMAIL), local Archive/In/Out folders, unread counters.

Meshtastic and MeshCore together

One conference space on top of different mesh networks, not a single firmware.

Interface and editor

A GoldED-style TUI with tagline signatures (F3), an event log (F9) and a nearby-nodes list (F6).

Transport: radio, MQTT, internet

  • LoRa radio transport
  • Reliable addressed delivery over the air: missing fragments are re-sent
  • Cross-city and cross-border links over the internet: MQTT / DHT / relay

Echomail and synchronization

  • HWM Sync: pulling history (echomail and personal mail) for your subscriptions from any node
  • Active check for fresh mail at the hub: on startup and once a minute
  • Full catalog replication on caching nodes (CLIENT_BASE)
  • History depth choice (all / year / month / day) — only on a node with no internet

Protocol and compatibility

  • PackerEngine: compression, prioritization, anti-storm protection
  • Client and protocol version exchange, cross-checked with GitHub on an internet-connected hub
  • Version-incompatibility warning: a red footer tag and sync refusal

HWM synchronization

A three-stage exchange SYNC_REQ → SYNC_OFFER → GET_DATA, pulling missing messages from several sources.
